摘要：作为"两大西方文化源泉之一"[1]的希腊罗马神话对西方社会文化和语言都产生了深刻而久远的影响,以其为渊源的词汇广泛渗透到英语词汇的各个方面。本文主要从以希腊罗马神话名词做词根的派生词,由希腊罗马神话中众神名字直接转化来的词汇,以及源于希腊罗马神话的英语习语和典故三方面探讨了英语词源,指出希腊罗马神话对英语词汇的巨大影响。
As one of the two origins of western culture, Greek and Roman Mythology has a profound and long-lasting influence not only on western society and culture but also on language. And words rooted in Greek and Roman Mythology have been absorbed in every aspect of English. This essay is a discussion on English etymology and at the same time points out the big influence of Greek and Roman Mythology upon English words.
