摘要：杰出美国作家欧内斯特.海明威,因其"冰山理论"而独成一派,并蔚然成风,被人追捧。海明威在运用了象征来引导读者体味作品的意蕴。冰山理论为象征之花的怒放提供了适度的水和土壤,而象征之花的怒放则给了读者更多的视觉效果。
Ernest Hemingway, as an excellent American writer, sets a good example of using of Iceberg Principle, which is followed by many other famous writers ＆ accepted by the common readers. His Hills Like White Elephants is also well - known to us. The author of this thesis finds that Hemingway allures readers to experi- ence the implicatures of the story by attempting symbols. By comparing it to the Iceberg Principle, the author finds that Iceberg Principle offers suitable water ＆ soil for the blossom of Symbols, while the blossom of Symbols makes Iceberg Principle more visible.
