摘要:20世纪初期美国的消费方式开始呈现出商品化趋势,而德莱塞的《嘉莉妹妹》是最早反映这一社会现象的小说。《嘉莉妹妹》中的消费文化主要体现在物质消费、情感消费、身体消费等方面,女主人公迷惘、拼争、成功继而沉默自省的生活经历很好地反映了这一现象的发展过程。
At the beginning of the 20th century, the consumption in America began to snow commercialization, and Theodore Dreiser's Sister Carrie is the earliest novel to reflect this cultural phenomenon. This paper will analyze consumer culture in Sister Carrie from three aspects-- material consumption, emotional consumption, and body consumption. The life experience of the female protagonist----confusion, struggle, success and self-examination is a typical embodiment of that culture.
