摘要：《典型的美国佬》是美国华裔作家任碧莲的代表作品。故事讲述了张家人文化身份的认同和重构的过程。张家人初到美国时,对美国文化极度鄙夷和排斥,坚决固守传统文化身份,后来逐渐接受并认同异邦文化,但是对美国文化的盲目认同使得他们遭受了巨大的灾难。通过反思,他们意识到化解认同危机的办法既不是对本民族文化的完全背弃,亦不是对美国文化的盲目接受,而是汲取中美文化的精华。
Typical American is Chinese American writer Gish Jens typical work. The story mainly talks about the process of cultural identity and reconstruction of the hero and his family members. When the hero and his family members are new comers to the US,they have a contemptuous and repelled attitude toward American culture and try their best to keep traditional cultural identity,but the years＇ American life make them gradually accept foreign culture, which brings them great misfortune. After that, they begin to realize that the best means of solving the crisis is neither completely deserting national culture nor blindly accepting American culture, but imbibing the essences of them.
